John Borowski : Profile & Background
I've been involved in commercial photography for just about as long as I can remember. Happily, it's much more than just a job, so I find as I get older my enthusiasm is probably increasing. (Which given how much the technology involved in professional photography has changed in the last decade or so, is just as well).
Nowadays I tend to work almost exclusively on location. Years of studio work provided a sound technical education (not much chance of a quick bodge if your shots are the basis of an international ad campaign) but these days I like to be in the fresh air.
Technical expertise, of course is just one part of the story. There are quite enough technically perfect but dull photographs in the world already, so creativity is just as vital.
Which might mean taking a shot from an unusual angle. Sometimes it just means thinking about the shot a little differently. And sometimes it means not being panicked knowing I've only got a very limited 'window' to get the best shot(s) possible. Never hurts to have a 'plan B' when you know there's no second chance.
Specialising In The Energy Sector
These days most of my work is in the specialist energy sector. Which is fortunate, because it's work I really enjoy, and if I say so myself, I happen to be pretty good at it.
So over the last decade or so, I've found myself in over fifteen different countries working on projects for some of the world's major energy companies.
Some of these projects are pretty-straightforward, others can be a little (or a lot) more complicated.
No problem. I have the experience not to be fazed by the odd logistical glitch. Equally important, I also have the ability to work pretty unobtrusively, with minimum disruption in the workplace (doesn't matter how good the shots are if I've cost you 3 days production).
